Global Biodiversity Expertise (IPBES)

This ESRC-funded project on the Intergovernmental (Science-Policy) Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) was carried out between 2013 and 2017 as doctoral research in the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge

The IPBES Intergovernmental Plenary in Bonn, Germany, 2017

In this project, I examined the form and function of this global expert body for biodiversity during its first work programme. In particular, I explored the organisational processes through which expert knowledge could be produced for biodiversity at the global scale.

This research drew on an extended period of institutional ethnography and qualitative interviews, and has been developed into a series of academic publications in recent years.
